Another Comeback

We did it again! Another 4th Quarter comeback win. My coach pretty well sums it up here in his post-game interview. “We like the dramatic, I guess. In our three (previous) wins, we had the lead for something like 90 seconds combined. I don’t know what our kids have in them, but they believe and there is no quit in them.” It may sound cliché, but this was one more TEAM WIN. Our defense played well all night, and when we absolutely had to have the ball, they gave it to us…then the offense delivered. After a scoring strike to get us within two, the defense gave us the ball back with a little over a minute left. We drove 70 yards for a score, and a 2-point conversion. That is the first time North Central has beaten Carmel since 2005. We continue to gain team confidence week by week. Considering where we started, I’m not sure anyone expected us to be 4-2, and competing for a MIC championship. Three regular season games left…let’s go Panthers!

4th Quarter Grit

How about a comeback win? That’s what I’m talking about! If this team has shown anything this year, it’s shown we are resilient. We’ve bounced back from a tough loss, and we proved we don’t quit…ever! We were down 10-20 with less than 9 minutes left in the 4th Quarter in our game against Center Grove. Our defense absolutely did their job! They gave us the ball back when we needed it. Our first score was a 70+ yard strike. The dime dropped right on #12 (our senior leader in the receiver room), and he did the rest. Our second score for the win was a fade to the end zone. I’ve never been more proud of a teammate. Just a sophomore, #7 made a beautiful clutch catch with about a minute left. Our defense held on. GREAT TEAM WIN! This week will be a tough one against Carmel. They are well coached and fundamentally sound. I’m looking forward for the opportunity to test ourselves against the #2 rated team in the state.

Gelling

Well, here we are, a month into the season. I’d like to say we are 4-0 and we started off the season like we were in a rocket ship…not the case. We sit at 2-2 after a bumpy start, but last week the guys came together for a great win. Last week, all the hard work we put into spring and summer ball finally came together. We’ve been just a half degree off in our two losses, but last Friday we clicked! By far my best game of the season. Coach’s confidence in me paid off with 4 TD passes and almost 70 yards on the ground. But like I said, WE clicked. By far the best performance by the O-line…those dudes were beast mode. By far the best performance by the skill guys—in fact, one of our wide receivers won “Fox 59 Play of the Week,” how about that! Tough sledding ahead in the MIC Conference, but we feel we are ready to compete.

Summer Work

I’ve been busy this summer working with my team and improving my personal performance. Team practice has been awesome. Even though its summer, I really feel like the guys are coming together. I’ve really enjoyed stepping into a leadership role with some fellow senior players. Off the high school practice field my buddies and I have been heading out to a local college field to run routes. On my own time, I’ve been QB training with Coach Anthony Morelli at X-Factor. To improve my speed and agility, I’ve been training with Horace Barrett at Fuel Performance. Right now we have really good competition for the starting position. I look forward to practices where I put it all out there for the team.
